MAB Industry Partnerships
The primary focus of the MAB Industry Partnership Program is the support of the Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree program at Texas A&M University. The MAB is an intercollegiate program in conjunction with the Mays School of Business supported by the Intercollegiate Faculty of Agribusiness that includes members from the Departments of Agricultural Economics, Accounting, Finance, Information and Operations Management, Marketing, and Management at Texas A&M University. The curriculum focuses on developing analytical skills through team projects, presentations, and written analyses that develop competence and confidence, which quickly translates into performance in the workplace upon graduation. Many of our students elect to further enhance their marketability by completing an internship during the program.
Partners have indicated the following factors as being influential in their hiring of MAB graduates:
- Diversity of each cohort with respect to culture, discipline and gender.
- Team performance.
- Case method teaching emphasizing firm level analysis in the absence of perfect information.
- Competence and confidence in analytical writing and communication.
A key objective of the MAB Industry Partnerships will be to provide feedback on the brand image of the MAB degree and, where possible and appropriate, provide assistance in increasing the awareness of this brand across the food and agribusiness industry. The financial commitment of an MAB Industry Partner is $3,000, $5,000, or $10,000 per year, a large portion of which is used to support the MAB students through scholarships and fellowships named for the contributing Partner. In addition, our Partners have the opportunity to participate in Food & Agribusiness Industry Symposia and Professional Workshops.
If you would like to become an MAB Industry Partner, please complete the form and return it along with your check to the address indicated. The benefits of being an Industry Partner include:
- participation every other year in the Food & Agribusiness Industry Symposium, which provides a forum for three corporate leaders to share “top-of-mind” issues and to engage the MAB student body in discussion on these issues and more general topics regarding career development,
- the opportunity for talent recruiters and college coordinators to develop relationships with the MAB students in one of several Professional Workshop scheduled regularly during each semester, and
- the opportunity to provide critical feedback on the skills “tool box” with which the students graduate and the sustained relevance of their skills.
Internships/Pre-professional Placements
An increasing number of companies are using internships as pre-professional placement and make employment decisions on the culmination of the internship. Thus, students are strongly encouraged to use the summer session during their program to gain experience that will lead to their chosen career path. Students entering the program with prior work experience are often using this opportunity to change career paths and need the internship opportunity to reinforce new skills and to signal the transformation. Professional Workshops also provide opportunities to engage with prospective interns.
Professional Workshops
Companies are encouraged to contact us to schedule opportunities to meet with the students for an hour plus workshop during which they can introduce the company, discuss the skills and talents they are seeking and establish relationships with prospective interns and employees. Industry partners with the MAB program have found that developing these relationships reduces the risk associated with employment decisions and helps to cultivate interest and efficient decision-making by the company and the student/prospective employee.
For further information, contact Eluned Jones at (979) 862-6784 or at eluned@tamu.edu to discuss this partnership opportunity.
