Dr. Oral Capps

About Dr. Capps:
Dr. Oral Capps, Jr. is Full Professor and holder of the Southwest Dairy Marketing Endowed Chair in the Department of Agricultural Economics as well as co-founder and Managing Partner of Forecasting and Business Analytics, LLC, an economic consulting firm. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics in 1975, M.S. in Agricultural Economics, M.S. in Statistics in 1977, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics in 1979, all at Virginia Tech. Dr. Capps has been a member of the faculty at Texas A&M since September 1986. He has authored 110 refereed journal articles and co-authored four books. In 1995 and again in 2003, he received the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching. In 1997, he received the Journal of Food Distribution Research Best Journal Article Award. In 1998, he received the Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence for Team Research at Texas A&M University. In 1999, he received the American Agricultural Economics Association (AAEA) Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award and was a co-recipient of the Applied Consumer Economics Research Award from the American Council on Consumer Interests. In 2000, he was the co-recipient of the Agricultural and Resource Economics Review Outstanding Journal Article Award. In 2001, he received the Frank Panyko Distinguished Service Ward from the Food Distribution Society. In 2002, Dr. Capps received the Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence for Research at Texas A&M University. In 2004, Capps was a "Fish Camp" namesake at Texas A&M University. In 2006, Capps was appointed to the National Academies Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources to work on the economic development and current status of the sheep industry in the United States. In 2007, he was co-recipient of the AAEA President's Award. Finally, Dr. Capps will receive the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southern Agricultural Economics Association in February.
