The Department of Agricultural Economics offers undergraduates many choices in their scholastic development. Students choose between the Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics degrees and identify a curriculum that suits their career goals. Neither degree excludes students from careers outside the agriculture sector. These degree programs can also be beneficial in preparing students for graduate and/or law school programs.

The Agribusiness degree prepares students for U.S. and international careers in the nation’s growing agribusiness sector that provides the products and services for the production, processing, and distribution of food and other consumer goods. These students integrate economic and business management principles with technical knowledge to develop practical decision-making skills. This degree is co-offered with the Mays Business School.

The Agricultural Economics degree provides curricula flexibility with its Food and Fiber Marketing, Farm and Ranch Management, and Resource Economics options. The students gain expertise for a variety of jobs in agriculturally-oriented business firms and agencies.

This website is designed for use by current and prospective undergraduates in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University. It is designed to answer many of the questions you might have as you progress toward your Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in either Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics and to explain many of the methods and procedures used by the Department and University.

While this website attempts to summarize the more important information from all sources, YOU are ultimately responsible for knowing and following all University rules and regulations pertaining to your academic program and progress. Therefore, you should also read the Texas A&M University Undergraduate Catalog (available in hard-copy format at the MSC bookstore and on-line at http://www.tamu.edu/admissions/ucat/index.php) and the latest version of the Texas A&M University Student Rules (available only on-line at http://student-rules.tamu.edu/).

Another important resource is the Department of Agricultural Economics Undergraduate Handbook. This handbook is available online (coming soon) and in hard copy format in the Department’s Undergraduate Office (Blocker 331). This handbook repeats some of the information contained in the sources noted above and provides substantial detail on Department-related issues. Current students may obtain a copy on request. Others are encouraged to consult the on-line version or purchase a copy for $5 in the Department’s Undergraduate Office.

If you need clarification on this topic, send email to the Department of Agricultural Economics Undergraduate Office.
