Preregistration

AT LEAST TWO DAYS BEFORE IT IS YOUR START DATE/TIME TO PREREGISTER, CHECK THAT YOU HAVE NO BLOCKS. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PREREGISTER IF YOU ARE BLOCKED. BLOCKS MAY BE CHECKED ON
http://myrecord.tamu.edu/.

Preregistration start dates and times will be e-mailed to your Neo e-mail account. If you plan on preregistering, YOU are responsible for checking your Neo e-mail for your start date/time. Start dates and times are assigned randomly within each classification (seniors first, juniors second, etc.) for every preregistration period. Once your start date/time begins, you have 48 hours to complete your preregistration, EXCLUDING weekends and holidays. For example, if your assigned start date/time is November 18 at 6:30 a.m., you can access online registration any time between November 18, 6:30 a.m. and November 20, 6:29 a.m. (i.e., a 48-hour period). If you are unable to complete your preregistration during the 48 hours allotted to you, you will have to wait for the open registration period for your classification or the open period for all students to finish your registration. You may check the calendar of dates at http://register.tamu.edu/ .

Students who work a minimum of twelve (12) hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday either on-campus or off-campus are allowed to preregister for their classes earlier than the general student population so they can schedule their classes around their work schedules. In order to qualify, please go to http://register.tamu.edu/ and read the information contained therein. The form must be signed by your employer and physically submitted to The Registrar's Office at the Metro Center on Texas Ave., i.e., no electronic submissions are permitted.

The preregistration process is outlined below:

  1. Go to the online Course Schedule at http://courses.tamu.edu. This website contains a list of all courses to be offered along with section numbers and the time each section of the course will be taught. PAPER COPIES OF THE SCHEDULE OF CLASSES ARE NO LONGER PUBLISHED!

  2. You MUST have an appointment AND a schedule of courses outlined BEFORE seeing an advisor. Click on trial schedule to printout a hard copy of the trial schedule form so as to be prepared for your appointment. Be sure you have checked the prerequisites for each course selected. Also, check for potential schedule conflicts between your courses and noted optional instruction and/or common exams. You are only allowed to register for 16 hours during preregistration. Additional hours may be added after the preregistration period ends.

  3. You may want to review the grade distributions based on past semesters for specific classes. You can obtain this information online at http://www.tamu.edu/admissions/records/reports/index.php, or you may access the information at http://www.pickaprof.com . You will also find student comments at the "Pickaprof" location. There is a per semester charge to use "Pickaprof".

  4. Use the online Course Schedule to check for availability of courses. Once a class has reached enrollment capacity, there will be a 0 in the column titled "available." This will assist you in preparing your schedule and save you time once you have accessed online registration.

  5. If you encounter a class that you want to take but it is full, you have the option to go to the department in which the course is offered to attempt to get forced into a "closed/full" course. Many departments do not force students into "closed/full" sections, but it may be worth asking - nicely!

  6. For AGEC classes we have an online system for adding your name to the force list. You will need to enter all required information and submit your request at the link below. Please note our procedure for processing these requests. We highly encourage you to submit a request as soon as you see the course section you want is full. DO NOT WAIT until the end of the preregistration period or the end of the semester. The priority in which the forces will be allocated within each class/section are as follows: (1) AGEC/AGBU seniors graduating in May 2006; (2) AGEC/AGBU seniors graduating in August 2006; (3) AGEC/AGBU seniors graduating in December 2006; (4) all other AGEC/AGBU/AGBL students; and (5) non-majors. Within each of those categories, allocations are made according to who signed up first and who we are able to reach when we are processing the force list. Therefore, be sure you submit to us a GOOD phone number AND e-mail address we can use in contacting you.

Notes:

You MUST have an appointment AND a schedule outlined before seeing an advisor. Simply coming in to have Rose or Pam make your schedule is not acceptable. Preregistration is a very busy part of the semester. In order to help more students both of these items will be required as your “ticket” in to see an advisor. Please also note that appointment times are not guaranteed, but we will make every effort possible to see you in a timely manner.

To help you decide what courses you should take, we strongly suggest that you click on the curriculum link on the menu to the left and download your curriculum sheet. Be sure to make certain you select the correct major, option, if applicable, and catalog number (125, 126, 127, etc.). If you do not know your catalog number go to http://myrecord.tamu.edu/current.aspx and click on "Degree Audit Request," your catalog number will be shown on the first page of your degree audit. Students classified as AGBL will need to call the office at 845-4911 and ask whoever answers the phone what their catalog number is as you will be unable to access the degree audit screen until you are classified as AGBU. After you download your curriculum sheet, mark off the courses you have completed. This will let you know what courses you are lacking to meet your degree requirements and you can select courses accordingly. BE SURE TO CHECK THE PREREQUISITES FOR EACH COURSE YOU SELECT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MET PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS. We advise that you attempt to get your MATH 141 and 142, AGEC 217, STAT 303, ECON 322/323, and AGEC 317 completed as soon as possible. Delaying the taking of these courses may delay your graduation one or more semesters.
