Dean McCorkle, Ph.D. is a Senior Extension Program Specialist in the Texas A&M University Department of Agricultural Economics. His responsibilities primarily include working with Extension administration, Associate Department Heads for Extension/Extension Program Leaders, and Regional Program Leaders to identify and prioritize Extension programs for analysis of economic impacts in the areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Community Health, 4-H and Youth Development, and Community Economic Development. Dr. McCorkle is the lead investigator in conducting the applied research and estimating the economic impacts of Extension programs as accountability measures for the economic value of Extension education. Other duties include responding promptly to subject matter requests from groups working in the area of regional economic impacts, such as state agency personnel, commodity and trade associations, local governments, county extension agents, and agency (AgriLife Extension) and departmental administration. In addition, activities include assisting other departmental personnel in the economic evaluation of Extension program impacts. When appropriate, the IMPLAN input-output model is utilized to provide different levels of geographic aggregation, and to measure the broader economic impacts.
