Professional Summary
Dr. Simon Somogyi is a Professor, and serves as the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University, effective August 1, 2025. He also holds the Dr. Kerry Litzenberg Endowed Chair in Sales & Economics. He previously held the Arrell Chair in the Business of Food at the University of Guelph. He is also a Senior Fellow in Agribusiness at the University of Queensland and holds adjunct professorships at Dalhousie University and the University of Guelph.
Named a Top Retail Expert by RETHINK Retail in 2024 and 2025, he is recognized globally for his leadership in food retail and supply chains. He earned a PhD in Agribusiness Marketing from the University of Adelaide, Australia, and teaches and researches agri-food sales, distribution management, and virtual food retailing.
His current work explores consumer adoption and policy development around smart and virtual food retailing, and he has led or contributed to food value chain projects in China, Japan, Australia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Kenya, and Canada.
He is the lead author of the Texas A&M Food Price Predictor, a biannual report forecasting food prices, and is a frequent media commentator in outlets such as BBC News, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Globe & Mail, and The Financial Post. He also provides consulting services to the private sector and government at state, provincial, and federal levels.
