Food Marketing Systems Option

Students enrolled in this option develop an in-depth knowledge of how food is priced, traded, and sold, both in the United States and abroad. With the aid of faculty and staff advisors, students in the food marketing systems option design their plan of study reflecting their particular future goals. The option allows students to do this through the incorporation of higher-level electives outside the department so as to customize the program according to those goals. Students develop a strong background in agribusiness management, international agricultural issues, food sales and food marketing.

Career Options

Students pursuing the Food Marketing Systems Option have a variety of opportunities available to them upon graduation. This option provides opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the food marketing and sales sector of the food supply industry tools for understanding issues unique to the development, advertising, distribution, and sales of food products.

Food Service Sales RepresentativeActs as the face for a vendor’s or manufacturer’s food products. Responsible for contacting new clients, maintaining relationships with established clients, consulting on new products and setting prices.$43,500
Wholesale or Retail ManagerManage the activities of establishments that sell food products or services. Employed in retail or wholesale establishments or in their own stores.$55,000
Food Marketing AssociateResearch conditions and determine demand and potential customers for food companies. Work for grocery stores and other retailers, restaurant chains or food manufacturers and wholesale distributors.
