Professional Summary
Steven L. Klose, Ph.D. is Professor and Extension Economist in the Department of Agricultural Economics with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas A&M University System. Dr. Klose’s primary responsibility is serving as Coordinator of the FARM Assistance program, a highly intensive extension effort to assist agricultural producers on an individual basis with strategic planning and risk management analysis. Spanning more than 20 years, FARM Assistance has been used to provide strategic decision information for over 2700 crop and livestock operations across the state of Texas. Dr. Klose’s FARM Assistance program has been recognized as a Distinguished/Outstanding Extension Program by the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association, the Western Agricultural Economics Association, and the Southern Agricultural Economics Association. Dr. Klose’s other farm management activities include topic areas of crop insurance, financial planning, strategic planning, and ag policy. He coordinates the unit’s enterprise budget publications, the Texas Custom Rates project, and serves as a contributing topic editor/coordinator for Southern Ag Today (a region-wide collaborative outreach effort of the Southern Region Extension Economists). Dr. Klose is also a member of the Agricultural and Food Policy Center and works with this group researching the implications of policy alternatives on farms and ranches across the country.
