Zoom FAQs

Is there a cost for me to use Zoom?

No, there is no cost for you to use Zoom. As the hosts, we are using the platform provided for our use by Texas A&M University.

You can use your computer, mobile device, or tablet. Simply click on the link that we email to you. If you are logging in through a “Start a Meeting” window (see below), you also may enter the Meeting ID that we provide to you in the email you will receive from us two days before the Mentoring Forum dates you are attending.

How do I access Zoom?

NOTE: If you intend to use a mobile device or tablet, we suggest you first download the Zoom app before your session begins.

Do you have the most recent version of Zoom? Read more.

Below are steps you may see on your device (cell phone or tablet) when using the Zoom app.

  1. Select “Join a Meeting.”

2. Enter in meeting ID, and then click “Join.” If meeting has a passcode, you will need to enter that too.

I’m trying to sign on, but I am getting a message “waiting for host.” What does this mean?

One of the security measures that we have implemented is to validate users before we welcome them into the Zoom forum. We will be reviewing all participants as they click the link to join our meeting.

Who do I contact if I am still having trouble logging in?

  • Agribusiness Entrepreneurship team
    • Madison Hawkins-Murchison: 512-897-7077
    • Victoria Saldaña: 956-975-0053
    • Merritt Weeks: 479-200-0510

What do I need to know about using Zoom during the Mentoring Forum?

To contribute to a more personal environment, we suggest that you have your camera on during your discussions with the students. Likewise, students should also have their cameras on at all times.

If you access Zoom and your camera is not working or sound is not working, first check to see whether your audio and video are turned off by looking at the audio and video features in the lower left corner of the Zoom screen. If a red back-slash is present, that feature is off.

Audio and video features are disabled.

Simply click the icon to turn the audio or video on. Below is an image of a these when engaged and working.

Audio and video features are now enabled.

We recommend that you enable “all meeting control” to ensure that the control bar with the audio and mute features, as well as other features, remains visible. To do this, you will need to change the default setting for your Zoom profile. Click on the arrow/caret symbol next to the audio button to access settings. Follow instructions provided in this article.

How do I leave the Zoom meeting?

When you are ready to leave the breakout room, you may return to the main room by clicking “leave breakout room.”

If you are ready to leave the Zoom forum session, you may look for the red “Leave” or “End” button. This will be located in the lower right corner on desktop and laptop computers and in the upper right corner for devices (cell phones and tablets).
