Department Overview

We’re renowned for training high-caliber graduates to pursue careers in industry, government, private sector and law. We offer small class sizes and provide students with superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills applied to environmental, public policy, marketing and sales, entrepreneurship, finance and real estate, and agribusiness issues.

Our award-winning faculty are in demand as speakers, consultants and analysts for private industry and governments. Dr. Simon Somogyi

Department Head

Dr. Simon Somogyi

Effective Aug. 1, 2025, Dr. Simon Somogyi will lead the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University. With a broad career spanning agribusiness marketing, consumer research and global food systems, Dr. Somogyi brings an applied perspective to the department. Currently, he holds the Dr. Kerry Litzenberg Endowed Chair in Sales and Economics and directs the Weston AgriFood Sales Program. Since joining the department in 2023, Somogyi has played an active role in undergraduate education, industry engagement and academic program development.

Howdy and Welcome!

We are very pleased that you have an interest in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University. Our department has achieved national and international prominence as one of the largest and well-recognized agricultural and applied economics departments in the world. Many of our graduates hold positions of distinctions in various organizations around the world including industry, academia, and government.

We have a broad and excellent faculty base with major contributions in the areas of economics of agriculture, food, agribusiness, environment, and natural resources. Our goal is to provide outstanding teaching, research and extension programs that have transformational impact on our students, clientele, and society in general.
